How does a Room for Joy get created?

Here is the Process:

We partner with area hospitals like Phoenix Children's Hospital or St. Joseph's to select a child

Tory and the Family Life Coordinator meet with the child and family to review their wishes for the room

A weekend is selected for the installation

Tory meets with the design team, artists, and carpenters to design the room

The medical equipment needs are discussed and the design includes camoflage of the equipment

The process takes from 6-8 weeks from time of selection of the child to the time of installation.

Following the family meeting the Family Life Coordinator plans a weekend get away for the family since they are displaced during the room installation.

Usually rooms are installed on the weekend.

Friday is general painting and preparation.

Saturday is the day things get crazy as the installation of all the design elements are completed.

Sunday all the details and final placing of furniture and accessories are completed. Sunday at 4 PM the family comes home and the new room is revealed.
