Ben's Room
14 year-old Ben is an intelligent, mature young man. He loves American History and the ocean. As he is preparing to incorporate a home dialysis regimen to help him receive his increasing need of dialysis for chronic kidney disease, his room makeover was especially important. Ben’s ultimate request for his room theme was “pirates”. Southwest Scenic Group created an awesome ship wall with masts and a kraken coming over the edge! Storage for Ben’s new dialysis machine and equipment, which looks like a ship crate, was built by Crating Technologies and retrofitted with shelves by Ray. The dressing room area was fitted with a new “vanity” and countertop, built and installed through a team effort between Ray, Dwight and Ken. The ship needed rustic doors so Ken built a very cool black door with iron-looking hardware and Dwight built his door with port holes that actually open! Because he loves the ocean, the nighttime ocean mural created by A&M Graphics, was installed behind the ship wall and painted to carry the starry sky onto the ceiling. A spectacular fiber optic ceiling panel, built by Ray, brought the starry night sky to life. Finally, what is a ship without a crow's nest? Mike did an amazing job building the crow's nest that Ben and his siblings can even climb in!! We hope Ben will sail through his treatments and find peace as he looks up at his starry night sky.
