Gabriel's Room
Eight-year-old Gabriel is a soft-spoken, polite boy who is very articulate and knows what he wants. Even though Gabriel has a unique medical condition called Intractable bilateral temporal lobe epilepsy, which causes many struggles for him, you would never even know he is battling this illness when you meet him. He is an avid Star Wars fan and has a particular fondness for Darth Vader. He shares the room with his younger brother, Luke, who, you guessed it, likes Luke Skywalker. So, our team got to work creating an over-the-top Star Wars themed room for them. Southwest Scenic Group outdid themselves by providing an awesome spaceship themed bunkbed, Mike built an amazing Millennium Falcon that the boys could play in complete with lights, Ray created a very cool talking R2D2 out of..wait for it...a trash can and our artists, Andrea and Jeremie did their magic and transformed the closet doors into the inside of the spaceship. And, speaking of closets, with two kids sharing a room, storage is always a challenge so Dream Closets built a custom system for them. Because Gabriel is such a huge Star Wars fan we partnered with an organization called The 501st Legion. They are a costuming organization that provides character visits to different events and for other nonprofits. Gabriel and his family were so surprised and it made the room reveal extra special! We had such and amazing weekend creating his room makeover and we couldn't do it if it weren't for the wonderful volunteers (you know who you are!) who show up and make it happen. Finally, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank Jim and Graduation Solutions for sponsoring Gabriel's room makeover. May God richly bless you for your faithful support of Room For Joy. And to Gabriel...."may the force be with you.":)
